Franco-Ontarian Day (2024)

On September 25th 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m., we will be celebrating Franco-Ontarian Day at the Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier.  Everyone is welcome!

Vanier resident Suzanne Lépine, along with her colleagues of Vanier Community Association’s  Francophonie Committee, has been organizing this event for several years.  They are preparing a wonderful free activity for the whole family: flag ceremony, music, art workshop for the little ones, West Indian dance workshop, BBQ, police car demonstrations for young and old.  The Ontario Provincial Police’s gesture of solidarity with the Francophone community will also be highlighted: since last year, French-speaking officers have been wearing a Franco-Ontarian flag pin.

“For Francophones and Francophiles in Vanier, Franco-Ontarian Day is an incredible opportunity to bring together the diverse Francophone communities and celebrate our language, our diverse cultures and the heritage of Vanier, a bastion of Ontario’s Francophonie,” says Johanne Leroux, President of the  Association’s Francophonie Committee.  “Every year, this day recognizes the contribution of Ontario’s Francophone community to the cultural, historical, social, economic and political life of the province”.

In Vanier, Franco-Ontarian Day has been celebrated at the Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier since 2018.   The Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier, located at the corner of Dupuis and Montreal Road, was initiated by the Vanier Community Association’s Francophonie committee and inaugurated under this name by the City of Ottawa on September 25th, 2019.  The flagpole was inaugurated by the City on June 24th, 2023: it is designated exclusively and permanently for the display of the Franco-Ontarian flag.
