Franco-Ontarian flag lowered at the Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier in memory of Bernard Grandmaître

It is with sadness and great respect that we have lowered the Franco-Ontarian flag at the Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier in memory of Bernard Grandmaître, who passed away on October 28, 2025. His funeral will take place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Mr. Grandmaître was a councilor and then mayor of Vanier before entering provincial politics, where he was a great defender of Franco-Ontarian rights. On June 24, 2023, it was Mr. Grandmaître who inaugurated our new flagpole flying the Franco-Ontarian flag at the Carré de la Francophonie de Vanier.

We offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

The City of Ottawa also flew flags at half-mast at the Richelieu-Vanier Center.
